The Dangers Of Food Additives |
by: Charles S Livingston, D.C., C.C.W.P. -GreenLife Weight Loss Methodologies Coach

Nowadays, nearly all store bought foods contain food additives. Canned, packaged, prepared foods, frozen, even condiments and beverages all contain food additives to keep them from "spoiling" improving their shelf life. They are used to improve taste (Might be a good reason to NOT eat the food in the first place), how the food looks, and the food's texture.
Another reason that food additives are used is to "addict you to a certain food". Certain substances such as MSG (Mono-Sodium-Glutamate) are very addictive and will cause you to crave more and more of a food.(Ever heard the phrase "You can't eat just one?") Some of these substances will even bypass the body's hunger mechanism so that you will keep eating even though you are full.
And of course, this means that you will gain weight. (Sneaky little trick by the food industry... that they don't want you to know about)
Some of these additives are natural and for the most part completely harmless. On the other hand, the majority of these are chemically manufactured and can be deadly.
Additives and The Food Industries
In this article, you will learn which of these food additives will be safe for you to consume and which ones you want to stay away from.
According to research, there are over 3000 additives routinely used in our foods. I'm sure that you have run into them if you are reading the ingredients on your food labels. (Usually the words on the back that you can't pronounce are food additives and preservatives)
A person consumes nearly 150lbs of these food additives each year.
Let's take a minute and think about this... Our "authorities" have stated that these food additives are safe to consume in small doses. This is shown by research. And of course large doses of any of these compounds can potentially kill you.
Here is the main problem: Research doesn't show the safety of eating a bunch of foods with food additives. OR eating combinations of food additives OR consuming small amounts over time. Does this make sense? What is regarded as "safe" really isn't safe at all.
Your Body Can't Process Synthetic Chemicals
Since these are synthetic chemicals, the body doesn't recognize them as natural substances and has difficulty neutralizing and eliminating them. The end result: the toxins will be stored in fat cells and other metabollically depressed areas in the body. Which means that you will gain large amounts of weight.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people report adverse reactions to these so called "safe" synthetic food additives. Anything from headaches, nausea, diarrhea, hormonal dysfunction, metabolic changes, liver damage, problems with sexual function, cancer, mutation of DNA, kidney stones, etc. The list goes on and on.

Which Food Additives Can You Eat?
I mentioned earlier that not all food additives are potentially toxic. Those made from wholesome natural products are the least dangerous. Any chemical made in a laboratory (synthetic or manmade) are not found in nature and are foreign to our bodies. Since our bodies have a hard time dealing with them, side effects occur. These substances will contribute to the toxic load in our bodies, depress our immune system, cause obesity and irritate tissues. Because our bodies hold onto toxins in fat cells, it is a good idea to go through a natural weight loss and detox program. AVOID all foods containing these chemical additives.
A simple rule: If you can't pronounce an ingredient on a food label, or if it is long multi-syllable word, then avoid it.
